ANSI/NCSLI Z540.3 subclause 5.3

Laboratories applying for the accreditation of ANSI/NCSL Z540.3 subclause 5.3 will need to determine what kind of accreditation is needed when achieving additional accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025. Laboratories will have 2 options when applying for ANSI/NCSL Z540.3 subclause 5.3 accreditation. Regardless of the option that the laboratory chooses, they will be required to apply the requirements of subclause 5.3 to their own M&TE and calculate the M&TE for their own equipment.

Applicants wishing to have their entire scope of accreditation as part of the ANSI/NCSL Z540.3 subclause 5.3 accreditation will need to submit their procedure for calculating the probability of false accept. This option would detail that the laboratory has the technical ability and resources to identify the probability of falsely accepting a measurement for the entire scope of accreditation. This option applies to laboratories that are required by their customers to manage the customers equipment.

Applicants wishing to have a major field with related discipline accredited to ANSI/NCSL Z540.3 subclause 5.3 will need to submit a proposed scope identifying which parameters with a footnote along with the procedure for calculating the probability of false accept. Guidance can be found in Annex B of LABAG-401.1. This option may be utilized for the laboratories that are not managing the entire calibration system for their customer(s); but their customer(s) require them be accredited for the equipment that they send to the laboratory for calibration.
